Dear Members,

In his works on Bhakti Yoga, Swami Vivekananda says

that one who aspires to become a Yogi should possess a

good physical health. Is it applicable for us who

chant the Maha Mantra?

Sri.Sri.Muralidhara Swamiji.

It is a common code for all those are yet to reach the

final goal of Sadhana that they should take care of

the physical body. But that should be just to the

necessary extent and should not become an attachment

to the body.

Bhagavan Ramana says that the plantain leaf that is

used as a plate to take a meal is cleaned and taken

care of only as long as the meal is taken. Once the

meal is done, the leaf-plate is discarded. Similarly

the physical body needs to be nurtured enough to

enable one to perform spiritual sadhana in order to

attain liberation.

Thirumoolar, in his works says, “Udal Valarthen uyir

valarthene..” – that is, I preserved the body as long

as it is required.

It is said in Kali Dharma Undiyar,

dhanikane aanaalum vaadagai veettirkku

porull selavazhippaano undeepara!

avasiyame seivaanenru undeepara!

jivan kudiyirukkum kutilukku

upachaaram thevaiyillai undeepara!

ubayogamattilenru undeepara!

Would a man, even though very wealthy, spend

extravagantly for a rented house towards its

renovation or on some other ground? He would spend

only towards some compelling need.

Likewise, beautifying and excessive nourishment are

not required for the body which is the little house

that the jiva occupies. It would suffice to provide

the body with only the essentials.

Pl chant:

Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare

and be happy
