( Explanation : Thithi occurs earlier in the west than in

the east. Thithi is determined by the relative positions

of Sun , Moon and Earth to each other. As the Earth is

rotating towards east , Sun appears to move from east

to west and Thithi changes earlier as we move towards

west.

 

PhaalguNa Amaavaasya ( New Moon ) happens

to occur on Saturday , 05 April 2008 in the west and

hence New Chaandramaana Year is on Sunday ,

06 April 2008 in the Western Hemosphere.

 

Even in India New Moon ( Amaavaasya ) is only

upto about 9.25 am on Sunday 06 April 2008 ,

but since at the the time of Sunrise in India still it is
