Guest guest
Prasad Kathe Sunday, April 20, 2008 (Shirdi) The Shirdi Sai Baba Temple in Maharashtra has been caught up in a row over misuse of its funds. The devotees of the temple are worried about temple funds being used to benefit politicians. The row came to light when the temple recently issued a notice to build adjacent roads. But interestingly, these roads fall in the constituencies of several Congress MLAs who also happen to be the members of the temple trust. ''Our money should be used for some good and not misused,'' says Vivek Mule, a devotee. The concrete road being built from Shirdi to Shani Shingnapur entails an expenditure of a whopping Rs 5.5 crore and is a part of Congress MLA Jayant Sasaane's constituency. ''This is for religious tourism. Today the roads are in a bad shape and if spending some money means more people get convenience then what is the problem with that?'' says Jayant Sasaane, the MLA. This is a clear case of devotees' donations being used for political gains. And something needs to be done soon.
