NISHKAMA KARMA OR KARMA YOGA: In this state all actions are performed as discharge of one's duty with joy and dedication, as rewards in themselves. The Gita terms this approach as true sacrifice ( tyaga) and total renunciation (sannyasa) [18,2]. This state has also been termed as karma sannyasa. Here, all worldly relationships and possessions could be maintained, while not being tainted or affected by or attached to them, akin to the existence of a lotus leaf in water. Scientific studies have also borne out the fact that power, concentration and effectiveness are concomitant with any work done for its own sake, regardless of status, money or acclaim that may accrue in consequence. – K.
