A devotee should not waste time dwelling on the character of

others, nor finding fault with them. Instead, he should look

within himself and realize his own shortcomings.

Tukaram, in a spirit of humility and surrender, prays to the Lord

to accept him despite his many faults:

Why should I judge other's merits or faults;

Am I in any way free from them?

Why should I assess others' virtue and vice;

In what way are my acts different from theirs?

why should I dwell on others' malice and rancour;

I have even more of those failing in me.

There is none as deceitful and lax as I;

I have yet to see such a one with my own eyes.

I have vices in abundance, says Tuka,

Yet I surrender my heart at Thy feet, O Lord.
