Dear All,

Presenting interesting tidbits unique to our culture, tradition and the

Sanathana Dharma...

Regards

Ravishankar.G

1. The five people

According to the Shastras, the one who has been responsible for the body, the

one who gives ‘upadesa’ of the Gayathri Mantra, the one who feeds, the one who

imparts education and the one who imparts Jnana —

these five people are like one’s father

2. Veena and Yoga

The musical instrument Veena is related to divinity.

Playing the Veena is a Moksha sadhana. The Veena derives its shape only from the

figure of a Man - his rear (‘brishtam’), spinal cord, neck and head. If the

Veena is played in the right manner it would lead one in the Yogic path.

3. Doubts

Once a devotee approached Bhagavan Ramana and said, ‘Bhagavan, I have a lot of

doubts. Many a doubt keep arising in my mind every now and then. What shall I

do?’

Bhagavan replied, ‘Doubt the doubts. Then everything will be clear!’

4. Temple architecture and human body

The structure of a temple represents the structure of our body. The ‘sapta

prAkAras’ (seven corridors around the Sanctum Sanctorum) represent the six

‘chakras’ and the ‘sahasrara’ (in the head). The ‘pancha prAkAras’ (five

corridors) represent the five ‘kosas’ -

‘annamaya’, ‘pranamaya’, ‘manomaya’, ‘vijnanamaya’ and ‘anandamaya’.

The ‘dwajastamba’ represents the spinal cord while the ‘sushumna’ is the creeper

that entwines it. The sounds made through various instruments in the temple are

the sounds that are produced when the Sushumna rises up.
