On Purifying our Nature

Selfishness and pride - both these spoil the nature of a person. A

spiritual aspirant must therefore give up both selfishness and pride

entirely, once and for all.

Even after doing meditation, worship of God and many spiritual

practices, these may not show any clear benefit in the present,

primarily due to the impurity of our nature. A spiritual aspirant must

therefore pay special attention to improving his nature.

There is no greater gain than in purifying our nature.

He whose nature is purified, for him, the entire world becomes better.

He whose nature is to cause pain to others, he not only suffers pain

himself, but he also causes others to suffer. But he whose nature is

to make others happy, he will not only give happiness to others, but

at the same time, he himself also exuberates in happiness.

Man can improve his nature only by himself. Others can only show the

path, suggest remedies and can support him.

Our nature will improve when we impose justice on ourselves, (i.e.

being punitive to ourselves) and are compassionate towards others.

Good company, good thoughts and good messages from the scriptures, are

ways to improve our nature

One whose nature is purified, he does not face a downfall.

" Will do later " attitude leads to a severe downfall. It is difficult

of a person with this nature to attain " blessedness " (kalyan).
