All Actions are Performed only in Nature

That by which an activity is accomplished, that who is the one to

perform the activity is called a Kaarak (agent, or causative factor).

Among all the causative factors, the doership is most important;

because all actions depend on the doer (Kartaa). Other agents

(kaaraks) only support in accomplishing an act, but the doer is

entirely independent.

Consciousness is reflected in the Doer (kartaa), but in reality that

consciousness is not the doer. Therefore in the Gita, where God has

elaborated on the five contributors to action - the original base of

action (body), the doer (kartaa), the instrument (senses), effort

(cheshtaa) and impressions (daiva), there He has condemned recognizing

the Self (pure consciousness) as a doer -

" Tatraivam sati kartaaramatmaanam kevalam tu yeh;

pachyatyakrtabuddhitvaanam sa pachyati durmatih. " (Gita 18:16)

Inspite of these five contributing factors, he who sees the pure Self

alone as the doer, that man of perverse understanding, does not see

rightly, because his intellect is not pure i.e. he has not attached

importance to his discrimination.

In Gita, God has revealed either " Nature " (prakriti) or the modes of

nature (gunas) or the senses, as the doer. The the modes of nature

(gunas) are the evolutes of Nature (Prakriti), and the the senses

(indriyas) are the evolutes of the modes (gunas). Therefore in

reality, doership is only in Nature. There is no doership in our

sentient Self.

God declares -

" All actions are performed in all cases by Nature (Prakriti). He whose

mind is deluded by egoism thinks, I am the doer. "

" Prakruteh kriyamaanaani gunaiyah karmaani sarvashah

Ahamkaara vimudhaatamaa kartaahmiti manyateh. "
