Guest guest
Do Not Demand Your Rights, Rather Fulfill Your Duties Drops of Nectar on Duty A man can carry out his duties under every circumstance. Service is the real emblem of Duty. In other words, utilizing that which is received from the world -the body and other acquired things, for the benefit of the world. A man who carries out his duties is naturally happy within. On the other hand, a man who fails to do his duty, is naturally depressed. A spiritual aspirant can become free from attachment, only when he recognizes the body, senses, mind, intellect as not being " his " or " for him " , rather belonging to the world and for the world; thereby becoming intensely engaged in carrying out his duties, deligently and regularly for the benefit of the world. At present times the lack of peace, the unhappiness, the confrontation that is seen in homes and in the society, the primary reason for it is, that people are demanding their rights, but they are not fulfilling their own duties. No act of duty is small or big. Even the smallest or the biggest of tasks if undertaken only with the attitude of selfless service (with inner feeling of serving), then they are the same. That by which another is benefited, that itself is duty. That by which anyone is harmed, is contrary to our duty. It is only due to attachment and aversion that in carrying out his duties, a man has to strive and the task appears to be difficult. What one must do and can do, is called duty. Not doing one's duty is negligence, and negligence is " tamo guna " (qualities of ignorance and inertia), and these qualities of ignorance are hell " narakastama unnaaho " (Srimad Bhagavata 11:19:43). Acts done for one's own pleasure and happiness are called " unreal " , while acts done for the benefit of others are termed " real " . The " Unreal " actions are gateway to birth and death cycles, whereas the outcome of " real " actions is God realization.
