Time the Inevitable - An answer from Bhishma.

Dr. N.V. Koteswara Rao,

20.6.08

Our common questions that arise from say -doubting our capabilities,

our trust in God, our mundane problems versus our devotion to God,

envying the non scrupulous moneyed, powerful, and happy go lucky

people with addiction to worldly enjoyments, - existed even at the

time of Dwapara yuga.

The highly knowledgeable, strong willed bachelor, Bhishma with his

unquestionable devotion and having been well trained by his mother -

the sacred Ganges, wonders at how the well behaved, well devoted

people like Pandavas, Droupadi and Kunti had to undergo so many

difficulties. His wonder is that even though they had the unique

privilege of having Lord Krishna, the God himself always with them,

how did they have the insurmountable problems continuing over so

many years, ever since the childhood of Pandavas beginning with the

death of their father Pandu.

Bhishma exclaims, " The king is Dharmaja- who follows Dharma at

any cost, listens to advice from well wishers and Brahmins,

supported by the renowned warriors Arjuna and Bhima who can

threaten even Devas in the battle filed, and is liked by the God,

Lord Srikrishna – gets into problems continuing over years " .

Bhishma answers this puzzle saying that no one is above the Time

which is responsible for every event which is predecided to occur at

the time, place and situation. He says the God is in the form of

Time. The entire Divine activity is navigated and controlled by

Time. As the clouds meet and separate in the sky under the influence

of wind, so the people in the world meet and depart under the

influence of Time. Time is inevitable to any one.

(From MahaBhagavatam – in the context of Dharmaraju meeting Bhishma

along with Lord Krishna, Kunti, and Droupadi when Bhishma was

waiting for an auspicious time to leave his body on his death bed.)
