The best Sadhana (spiritual practice) is to behave as you do when you

get a parcel of books by post. To get at the books you unwrap the

parcel and throw off the packing material. Now, take the prayer that

is the deepest and the most significant - 'I want Peace'. Unwrap it of

the 'I' (the ego) and of the 'want' (desire) and get hold of Shanti

(Peace). When you are burdened with egoism and desire, how can you

attain Shanti? So, throw away the outer covering and hold on to the

precious essence that remains.

He who considers himself free is free indeed, and he who considers

himself bound remains bound. Constantly think yourself as being

eternal, unlimited, Consciousness- Bliss, and you will be free and

happy. So long as you trap yourself in body consciousness you are like

a lion moping about in a musty cave. Do not feel satisfied by saying,

'I am the body'. Roar and say, 'I am the Universal Absolute. I am all

that is, was and will be.' Pettiness, ego, time and space - all will

flee from your heart and you will realise your own Divinity.

You must cultivate charity, which does not mean giving some money to a person in

need or to an organization. Charity calls for the removal of all evil thoughts

that are within you and development of a largeness of spirit....When you look

around today you find that there is little evidence of sacrifice for the sake of

society. A person may call oneself a great devotee, or spiritual aspirant or a

scientist, but without a spirit of sacrifice there is nothing great in the

person. Seva (service) is the salt which lends savour to life. The spirit of

sacrifice imparts fragrance to living. One may live for 60, 70, or 80 years but

it will have no meaning unless his/her life has been devoted to the ennobling of

one's character and rendering devoted service to others. What you must aspire

for are not buildings, positions or factories and industries; a good character

is the greatest wealth you can acquire.

Good education must be such that it covers both worldly and spiritual matters.

Out of education comes humility, and out of such humility comes the right to

acquire good qualities. From such a right, you will be able to acquire wealth.

Once you acquire wealth, you will be able to follow the path of dharma (right

action) ; and once you follow the path of righteousness, you will be happy in

this world as well as in the spiritual world.
