What is there to Become Happy or Sad?

 

In getting something that you like or not getting it, what is there

to become happy or sad ? Best of best situations come your way,

then those too will not remain, but you remain ! Both favorable and

unfavorable situations, come to you and later go away, but you

remain. You are that same one, simply keep your sight on your

Self. All this that comes and goes, do not blend with it - this

itself is liberation. By blending with them - is bondage. All the

agitations that come and go, by becoming entangled with the

situations and circumstances is bondage, and not getting entangled

is liberation. What an easy, straight-forward, simple point this

is!

 

You say that inspite of not wanting you somehow get entangled and

blend with the noise, with favorable and unfavorable situations you

melt with them, then there is a solution for that as well. On

blending with them, you still have the knowledge that you have

blended with them, but Self is separate and the favorable /

unfavorable events are separate. Isn't it the truth ? Noise /

agitations arise then they subside; they come and they go away; but

you remain. Then you and the noise / agitations are two or one?

 

Now you say that " We understand right now, but the moment that a

favorable or unfavorable situation comes, at that moment, we cannot

tell. We become one and blend with it. After combining with it,

later we realize that we have melted / blended. " Then even after

recognizing this later, you must think that you were not combined

even at that time, you had simply believed that you were one. That

was not with you, and you are apart from that, with such

understanding, become silent. That is it ! It will go away. By

giving importance to the happiness and unhappiness from the union,

the noise within continues. Therefore do not give it any

significance. Talk to it and say, we were never connected, then it

will be wiped out. When you become aware, then say to yourself -

no - no, we had never come together.

 

When the agitation is experienced, when favorable and unfavorable

situations arise, at that time you get swept off your feet and

become happy and sad, and later when you realize that you became one

with the situation, then you begin to worry, that Oh! I became

entangled ! Then the time that you met the thing, at that time

too, you never left meeting, and the time that you were apart, at

that time too you worried about that one or thing. This is the

sickness. Both times you grab hold of it. In reality, being freed

from that, is by you and you alone.

 

Circumstances and situation are trying to free you, but you are

holding on to them, and saying that there is noise, there is

agitation, it is not going away. In this manner, even the time that

there is no noise, no clatter, at that time too you are holding on

to that clatter. When that clatter arrives, then through either

liking it or disliking it, you become entangled and trapped, and

when it does not come, then worrying about it you become trapped in

it as well. Therefore don't do this. Why are you getting trapped,

by doing this? Simply be free from that! It is up to you and you

alone!
