Guest guest
Pride of Being Wealthy One is a wealthy man and another is one who is highly educated and learned, these two have difficulty in spiritual attainment and salvation. The wealthy man has pride in his wealth and the learned/ highly educated one has pride in his knowledge. Pride can be harmful and damaging in all respects - " abhimaan dvesh itvaadainyapriyatva acch. " Shri Goswamiji Maharaj has also said - " samsrta moola soolprada naanaa sakala sauka daayaka abhimaanaa. " (Manas, Uttarkaand, 74:3) For pride is the root of metapsychosis and the cause of all kinds of pain and every form of grief. The main cause of birth and death is pride. " naanaa soolprada " - not just one kind of pang of suffering, but pride is the cause of various kinds of troubles and turmoils. On having pride of wealth and knowledge, man does not pay heed to anyone. On having wealth, he thinks that many great Souls and Scholars come to him, and obtain alms - this gets to their head, which prevents the awakening of devotion. The heart becomes hard and harsh. Again, this is not necessarily a principle, however, in the past this has been the observation. A poet has said a very extraordinary thing - " andh ramaa sambandh te haut na acharaj koi kamal nayana Narayana hu rahe sarp mein soi. " Due to the relationship with Lakshmiji, man becomes blind, this is not surprising. Bhagwaan's eyes are very big like Pundareekaaksh Lotus. Even the Great One with such big eyes, went to sleep on the snake. Those who have eyes, would not dare to put their foot on a snake, whereas Bhagwaan went to sleep on a snake. What is the reason? It is the relationship with Lakshmi. The relationship with Lakshmi can cause many with very big eyes, to become blind. " Andh mool baharo avash kamalaa nar hi kare, " - When Lakshmiji comes, she makes man blind, deaf and dumb. This is not such a surprising thing. The surprising thing is that - " Vish anujaa maarat na, bad aavat acharaj eha " - on eating poison, a man dies, but even though being the younger sister of Vish (Poison), she does not kill. Inspite of being the sister of poison, on Lakshmiji's arrival even though man could die, it is Her grace that saves them. When a man becomes known and wealthy, then he does not listen to anyone. He cannot see and he stops speaking. He is plugged with six types of blockages. If some one calls out and says " Oh ! bestower of food! we are in some difficulties, please have mercy, this is our pitiful condition. " One has to be able to hears these things by the ears, right? But he cannot listen. There are plugs in the ears, now how can he listen? Similiarly due to two additional blockages in the eyes - " sabal nirbal nahin boojhe. " " Fine and punish him, penalize him by that much ! " " Oh Brother ! He is so poor, how will be be able to pay the fine? " " Imprison him! " - what is the effort in speaking those words ? And one more blockage " Mukh maamya vipati kinaree nihin bujhe. " - are you unhappy or happy, what are you, what is your condition like? Are you undergoing any difficulties - such things he never asks. When these blockages are opened up, then " saral bhaye sansaar " - he becomes straight forward, honest and simple.
