TO REACH THE PRESENCE OF THE MASTER

Meditation has a purpose. A spiritual aspirant, if earnestly chooses

the path of meditation to purify his inner layers of consciousness

to " reach his master " , can follow the guidelines given by Master

E.K. Mihira has compiled these guidelines from the books written by

Master E.K. for the benefit of sincere Sadhakas.

1) Try to meditate in a room set apart for this purpose.

2) Once the place is fixed, try not to change it.

3) If change is inevitable, indicate it mentally to your unknown

Master on the previous day. Clearly indicate the changed place also

on the previous day.

4) Be ready for meditation 10 minutes before 6 AM.

5) Keep your body clean and change your night dress by that time.

6) Have the photo of a single Master or Deity at a particular place

in your room. Better have it placed in the North or East of your

room. You can face East or North while sitting down for meditation.

7) Have something spread on the floor and sit at ease upon the

covered floor. Use some incense preferably sandal wood or musk.

8) You can sit in any posture convenient to your constitution. The

most often used is Siddhaasana.

9) Exactly at 6.00 AM (local time), keep Namaskara Mudra and utter

the words Namaskarams Master. Close your eyes and place your palms

upon knees.

10) Allow the mind to picture what it wants, but observe it. This

should go on for ten to fifteen minutes. You need not check your

watch and the duration may be approximately noticed by the mind.

11) Try to remember the train of thoughts. If the mind is blank

slowly induce it to think of the white lotus between your eyebrows

inside your head. After fifteen minutes try to recollect the

thoughts and put them on paper in simple language. The date should

be noted first and then the thoughts. If you see any figures or

designs, draw them roughly in the book. If you hear words or

sentences note them in quotations.

12) If the sentences heard or seen in your mind are in the form of a

scene or in the form of instructions, try to follow them during the

hours of the day. Now you can get up and follow your daily routine.

During the day also you may receive passages and instructions.

Always be ready with your diary and note them down.

13) Keep a separate notebook as your spiritual diary. It should be

of ruled paper, and bound in an orange - red cover. This colour is

used as a signal to indicate to the Master and his disciples that

the student is ready with the diary. You must carry this book

throughout the day and at the same time it should not be kept open

for anyone to go through it. Any attempt to popularise should be

avoided. The attempt to keep it secret should be passive and should

not gain prominence.

14) It there are no instructions either in prayer or in the day, do

not be disappointed. You receive them when necessary.

15) Keep the mind free from any programme.

16) Do not mentally project your mind into the presence of anybody

or any problem. At the same time do not shirk the physical presence

of any person.

17) Engage others in sprightly conversation keeping yourself as an

observer without being involved. Be alone mentally in the physical

presence of others.

18) Be active physically and never feel busy mentally.

19) Cut short any discussion imperceptible. If others discuss

anything too much in your presence do not interrupt them but keep

off mentally till the discussion is over.

20) Do not disagree with others. Try to sympathise with the other

man's point of view to allow him/her to suggest anything and leave

off that which is not congenial to you. Listen to what others need,

but not to what others wish.

21) Never try to compare or contrast Gurus and their work. Never

evaluate or find fault with the work of any Master. Eliminate the

nature of fault finding on all levels.

22) Do not keep away from advising when you are asked. Do not advise

on matters which you do not know clearly.

23) Have a complete head bath at least once a day. Wash face, hands

and feet as many times as possible.

24) Keep your body properly nourished. The intake of food is to be

measured in quality and not in quantity. It should be free from

strong spices as far as possible.

25) Take plenty of water - avoid heavy dinners, and also

congregational food without being antisocial.

26) Avoid medicating your body unless it is absolutely necessary.

Try to adjust health conditions by regulating food, rest and sleep.

27) Emotional balance is to be practised consciously.

28) Try to plan the routine of the day and act accordingly. Train

yourself to spend time, money and energy meaningfully. You must be

able to account your hours in terms of useful and interesting work.

29) Review your expenditure and try to eliminate items of luxury,

indulgence and wastage.

30) Economy of speech is to be maintained. Words should serve the

purpose of enlightening or relieving the burdens of others.

31) Try to patch up the painful angularities of others with the aid

of good human, and merry conversation.

32) Learn to smile with your heart, mind and face. Then you will be

able to help others, smile away their difficulties.

33) This gives a speedy expansion to your spirit.

Attracting others is a pious art. You can heal mind, soul, body

through magnetising. Attract others minds without leading them into

any illusion or false promise.

MEDITATION

Close your eyes, begin to utter and listen to your own voice, trying

to think of the meaning and the significance of your own voice (at

the same time not attributing any meaning which you know

previously). As long as you utter without listening to it there will

be no effect. You can't call it the utterance, or OM. There may be

sounds mechanically produced, resembling OM. They are not and cannot

be OM because OM is not only a sound, but also a word, a meaning, a

significance, a touch, a sensation, and an awakening. All these put

together is OM, the name of the Lord. This process is called Japa

(Meditation) .
