The sanatana dharma or Hinduism sources are classified as 'Sruti'

and 'Smruti'. Sruti is one that is heard of the divine

revelations. They are called Veda hymns of Veda mantras heard and

sung under divine inspiration. The Mantrapushpam is one of the

panchasuktas chanted in praise of Lord Srimannarayana.

At the end of all major prayers, ceremonies, pujas, yagnas and other

rituals Mantrapushpam is recited. A good majority of our Telugu

Hindus recite this irrespective of gender and caste. Acharyaswamis

in temples distribute flowers and the Mantrapusham is chanted . Then

the flowers are offered to God. The very listening of this Narayana

Suktam in sound format or swaram makes mind calm.

The Narayanasuktam explains about meditation. Before meditation,

one has to recite this and contemplate on the meaning, which inturn

helps in going into deep meditation. Initially the first few lines

talk of God's glory and latter it describes about where to meditate

and how to meditate. This suktam explained in a step by step process

about how to direct one's mind during meditation.

The entire 13 slokas of this Narayanasuktam is treated as

mantrapushpam in tradition. It is from Yajurveda's taittiriya

prapathaka X Anuvaka 12. I request you to listen(not to swara)

mantrapushpam with meaning and offer hymn flower to Lord Sri Maha

Vishnu on these festive Deepavali days.
