Main Obstacles to God Realization-Desire for Pleasure & Prosperity

Desire for Pleasure and Prosperity are the main obstacles to God

Realization.

Those who are deeply attached to pleasure and worldly enjoyments,

cannot attain the determinate intellect concentrated on God. (Gita

2:44). These are two very major attachments. This is a great flaw

in most human beings. When you have desire to hoard, you will be

unhappy, you will experience pain and suffering.

Attachment to pleasure and prosperity are the main obstacles to God

realization. Animals have no desire for accumulation of things

(hoarding) and have timely desires for pleasures (cyclical).

Paramatma has given intelligence to man. The householder should not

be greed, but it is keeping for the well-being of others. But if

you become immersed in only accumulating things and seeking

enjoyment and pleasure, it is an attachment. One should accumulate

only to serve and not for hoarding. Pray to God to help you to leave

this as this obstructs your path to spirituality. One major way of

overcoming this hoarding tendency is to ask Bhagwaan for help. You

have a right to ask Parmatma, to cure you of your flaws. Now that you

are alert, and you know that hoarding is not good, then ask Bhagwaan

for help. Be ever alert!!!!

Be careful that you do not harm anyone. The Gita says that " All is

God, " thus harming anyone means harming Paramatma (God). When you

do anything that is not beneficial to others, it is the same as

hurting Paramatma, because everything is Paramatma. It will

ultimately hurt you only. Cry and ask Paramatma, to wipe away these

flaws. paramatma is present in everyone and will come to your

rescue.

Karma Yog and Gyan Yog are the means to God realization while Bhakti

Yog is the end. In Bhakti the " Self " is important. In Bhakti yog

Parmatma is seen in All. In Jnana yog, Paramatma is seen in Self.

In Karma Yog, Paramamta is seen in the world. But Bhakti Yog, all

is God, including the Self. " Samvya vyavasitoh hi saha " (Gita

9:31).

Those bewildered persons with vain hopes, futile actions and

fruitless knowledge have embraced a fiendish, demoniacal and

delusive nature. (Gita 9:12).

The people with a fiendish (Rakshasi) nature destroy because of anger

The people with a demoniacal (Aasuri) nature destroy because of

selfishness. The people with a delusive (Mohini) nature destroy

because of delusion. People will fiendish, demoniacal and delusive

nature, cannot turn towards Paramatma.

Attachment and pride is the reason for all misdeeds and sins.

Attachment means deriving pleasure from whatever you do - be it

sleeping, eating, drinking, giving discourses, etc. Taking enjoyment

in eating, drinking, sleeping, wanting others to listen to you,

these are all attachments. If you have a flaw, you can ask

Paramatma for help. Therefore pray to paramatma, that this

attachment, this enjoyment that we are getting from the world,

please take that away from us.

Rev. Sethji said that telling people that they are wrong only lifts

the ego. But you feel pity on them, and tell them with the intent of

rectifying their mistake. You are thinking of the well-being of

others. Seeing them causes pain to you. You are cleansing yourself.

There is a story - In a religious organisation, a member was late

for a meeting as on the way he rescued a pig who had fallen into the

drain. The other members excused him as he was doing a great

service, a humane action. He said that he did not do any service and

in fact, he only helped himself by removing the pain that was caused

by seeing the pig in that state.

Those, who fully control their senses and even-mindedness towards

all, and devoted to the welfare of all beings come to Me - says Gita

12:4. May All attain salvation. May all be happy. May all be free

of sorrow and unhappiness, May all be uplifted and benefited. This

sentiment is very powerful. " Sarva Bhoote hiteh rataah. "
