Things which can not be recovered

THINGS WHICH CANNOT BE RECOVERED

A young lady was waiting for her flight in the boarding room of a big airport.

As she would need to wait many hours, she decided to buy a book to spend her

time. She also bought a packet of cookies.

She sat down in an armchair, in the VIP room of the airport, to rest and read in

peace.

Beside the armchair where the packet of cookies lay, a man sat down in the next

seat, opened his magazine and started reading.

When she took out the first cookie, the man took one also.

She felt irritated but said nothing. She just thought:

€  ’³What a nerve! If I was in the mood I would punch him for daring!€  ’´

For each cookie she took, the man took one too.

This was infuriating her but she didn€  ’²t want to cause a scene.

When only one cookie remained, she thought: €  ’³ah... What this abusive man do

now?€  ’´

Then, the man, taking the last cookie, divided it into half, giving her one

half.

Ah! That was too much!

She was much too angry now!

In a huff, she took her book, her things and stormed to the boarding place.

When she sat down in her seat, inside the plane, she looked into her purse to

take her eyeglasses, and, to her surprise, her packet of cookies was there,

untouched, unopened!

She felt so ashamed!! She realized that she was wrong...

She had forgotten that her cookies were kept in her purse

The man had divided his cookies with her, without feeling angered or bitter.

....while she had been very angry, thinking that she was dividing her cookies

with him.

And now there was no chance to explain herself...nor to apologize.€  ’´

There are 4 things that you cannot recover.

The stone... ...after the throw!

The word......after it€  ’²s said!

The occasion.... . after the loss!

The time......after it€  ’²s gone!

WHAT ARE TRUE RICHES

Posted by: " Saileelas " saileelas   leedharart

Wed Jul 9, 2008 11:50 pm (PDT)

WHAT ARE TRUE RICHES

Shri Sai Baba is Sagun Brahman. There are many saints who renounce the

world and live in solitutde for their own salvation. Shri Sai Baba was

not such a type. He lived in the society and taught all the people how

to act and behave in the world. Shri Sai has said several times to His

devotees to listen carefully to His Stories, understand their

significance, meditate ont hem and then only the devotee can assimilate their

spirit. Daily reading of Shri Sai Satcharita with devotion is essential for Sai

devotees to assimilate Baba's teaching.

Shri Sai Baba taught us to cultivate the habit of eating food in a

worshipful manner. Food is God. Everything that keeps us going is God.

Food is a manifestation of God outwardly. Within us the vital force is

God. All things that sustain life are expressions of God. The great life force

is God. Therefore, we must not treat food in a contemptuous way, in an angry

mood or in a mood of displeasure. So food should not be eaten with disregard or

in a huff or in a criticizing manner. " What is this food you have put upon this

plate?'. We must not be in such temper when we eat food. We must eat food in a

worshipful manner and must not waste food. This is what Baba taught us by

telling Shri Hemandpanth through his Leela described in chapter 24 of Sri Sai

Satcharita to remember Him always before eating. Remembering the Sagun form of

Baba will bring in us the mood of worship before eating, and our mind shall

attain peace and happiness.

The Upanishadic teaching that " Anna Brahma " was taught to us by Baba

through his stories for the quest for Guru described in chapter 32 of

Sri Sai Satcharita. In this, Baba has stressed again that " Do not

discard offers of food. Offers of bread and food should be regarded as

auspicious sign of success " . How beautifully Baba taught us through the purport

of this story to accept and eat food in a worshipful manner and what great

results one can achieve thereby.

Let us now see how Baba taught us what true riches are. If we begin to

desire immediately we admit our poverty. Desire is poverty. Desire is a feeling

of inadequacy and when we begin to desire we are a beggar

already. The secret of prosperity is to affirm our true nature. Be

always contended and put a notice on the mind. " No admission for

desire " . The moment a desire arises just reject it and say " Desire get

out " and then we will being to experience that the desired object comes by

itself to us. As long as we run after a thing we cannot get it. The moment you

turn away from a thing it follows us by itself. This is an eternal law. This is

a law which has been proven in the lives of all those who have discovered it and

applied to themselves.

Baba has taught us this great Brahma Sutra through the illustration of

the story of the servant maid of Shri Kaka Saheb Dixit in Chapter 20 of Shri Sai

Satcharita. The happy temperament of the maid servant when

while wearing torn rags on her person and the expression of joy on

getting a new sari and the following day the contentment shown by her by wearing

her old sari reveal clearly to all of us that the secret of

happiness is to assert our true abundant nature.

Let me conclude this with the saying of Sri Hemandpant in Chapter 2 of

Sri Sai Satcharita that " The life if Sai Baba is as wide and deep as the

infinite ocean and all we can dive deep into the same and take out

precious gems of knowledge and Bhakti and distribute them to all "

Col G.N. Gopalkrishnan

What God loves most are the flowers that blossom on the tree of man's

own life, fed and fostered by his own skill and sincerity. They are

the flowers of virtues grown in the garden of his heart. Of these, the

virtue of non-violence is most important. It involves much more than

abstaining from harming living beings. One should desist from causing

pain to any living being, not only in deed, but also in word and

thought. One should not entertain any idea of hurting or humiliating

another.

The mind is the mischief-maker; it jumps from doubt to doubt; it puts

obstacles in the way. It weaves a net and gets entangled in it. It is

ever discontented; it runs after a hundred things and away from

another hundred. It is like a driver who drives the car with the

master in it, wherever his fancy takes him. So take up the task of

training it into an obedient servant; it is educable, if only you know

how to do it. Place before it things more tasty and it will hanker

only for those. Once it realizes the value of Naamasmarana (chanting

His name), it will adhere to that method of getting peace and joy. So,

start it now.

Yogananda Paramahamsa

Posted by: " Paritala Gopi Krishna " p_gopi_krishna   p_gopi_krishna

Wed Jul 9, 2008 11:51 pm (PDT)

Cast off fear. What is there to be afraid of? Even a little bit of

fear, such as senseless apprehension of the dark or worrying about

things that " might " happen, affects the nerves more than you can

imagine. Why dread even death? God allows it to happen to everybody,

so it cannot be bad. That is a very consoling thought to hold on to.

Death is just like a refreshing sleep; and you are not afraid of

sleep, are you? Death is complete rest. God gives you death to release

you from all of your troubles here, and then to provide you with fresh

start in a new incarnation.

Resolve that you are not going to be affected by troubles; you are not

going to be finicky; you are not going to be victim of habits and

moods; you are going to be free as a lark.

The heart requires true love, friendship, and, above all, peace. When through

emotion peace is destroyed, it is a desecration of the bodily temple. A healthy

nervous system is what will maintain in proper order all the bodily organs and

feelings. And to keep the nervous system healthy, it is important to remain free

from devastating emotions such as fear, anger, greed, jealousy.

I will remain in all hearts as the unknown friend, ever arousing their flaming

feelings, and silently urging them through their own noble thoughts their

slumber of earthliness. In the light of wisdom I will dance with all their joys

in the unseen bower of silence.

Swami Sri Yukteswar to Paramahansa Yogananda: " Freedom of will does not consist

in doing things according to the dictates of prenatal or postnatal habits or of

mental whims, but in acting according to the suggestions of wisdom and free

choice. If you tune in your will with mine [the wisdom-guided will of the guru],

you will find wisdom. "

The Plan

The Plan

A pretty woman was serving a life sentence in prison. Angry and

resentful about her situation, she had decided that she would rather

die than to live another year in prison.

Over the years she had become good friends with one of the prison

caretakers. His job, among others, was to bury those prisoners who

died in a graveyard just outside the prison walls. When a prisoner

died, the caretaker rang a bell, which was heard by everyone. The

caretaker then got the body and put it in a casket. Next, he entered

his office to fill out the death certificate before returning to the

casket to nail the lid shut. Finally, he put the casket on a wagon to

take it to the graveyard and bury it.

Knowing this routine, the woman devised an escape plan and shared it

with the caretaker. The next time the bell rang, the woman would leave

her cell and sneak into the dark room where the coffins were kept. She

would slip into the coffin with the dead body while the caretaker was

filling out the death certificate. When the care-taker returned, he

would nail the lid shut and take the coffin outside the prison with

the woman in the coffin along with the dead body. He would then bury

the coffin. The woman knew there would be enough air for her to

breathe until later in the evening when the caretaker would return to

the graveyard under the cover of darkness, dig up the coffin, open it,

and set her free.

The caretaker was reluctant to go along with this plan, but since he

and the woman had become good friends over the years, he agreed to do

it.The woman waited several weeks before someone in the prison died.

She was asleep in her cell when she heard the death bell ring.

She got up and slowly walked down the hallway. She was nearly caught

a couple of times. Her heart was beating fast. She opened the door to

the darkened room where the coffins were kept. Quietly in the dark,

she found the coffin that contained the dead body, carefully climbed

into the coffin and pulled the lid shut to wait for the caretaker to

come and nail the lid shut.

Soon she heard footsteps and the pounding of the hammer and nails.

Even though she was very uncomfortable in the coffin with the dead

body, she knew that with each nail she was one step closer to freedom.

The coffin was lifted onto the wagon and taken outside to the

graveyard. She could feel the coffin being lowered into the ground.

She didn't make a sound as the coffin hit the bottom of the grave with

a thud.

Finally she heard the dirt dropping onto the top of the wooden

coffin, and she knew that it was only a matter of time until she would

be free at last. After several minutes of absolute silence, she began

to laugh. She was free! She was free! Feeling curious, she decided to

light a match to find out the identity of the dead prisoner beside her.

To her horror, she discovered that she was lying next to the dead

caretaker..

Many people believe they have life all figured out..... But sometimes

it just doesn't turn out the way they planned it.

Smitha

Pujya Ramsukhdasji Maharaj

Posted by: " Paritala Gopi Krishna " p_gopi_krishna   p_gopi_krishna

Wed Jul 9, 2008 11:52 pm (PDT)

In a 'Jiva' (being) " there is an 'amsa' (element) of the Consciousness

of God and an 'amsa' (element) of the inert nature (prakrti). By the

dominance of the Conscious-part, he seeks God; and by the dominance of

the inert part, he desires the world. Between these two, the yearning

for God will be satisfied, but the desires of the world are never

fulfilled. Some worldly desires seemingly fulfilled are in reality

never satiated, rather, due to worldly attachment, ever new desires

continue to arise. In fact, the fulfillment of worldly desires or

attainment of worldly objects, is not within the authority of desire,

but is subject to karma (action bearing fruit).

But, God-realization is not under the power of karma (act). God is

attainable simply by intense longing of one's own self. Its reason is,

that each karma (act), has a beginning and an end; so the result

(fruit) too is bound to have a beginning and an end. Therefore, how

can a beginningless and endless God, be realized by karmas (actions),

which are origin and end bound? But seekers have often understood,

that as the worldly objects are achieved by the predominance of

activities, so also the realization of God is through the dominance of

activity. As the assistance of body, senses, mind and intellect, has

to be taken in achieving the objects of the world, so also in

God-realization, the assistance of body, senses, mind, intellect will

have to be called for, they argue. Therefore, such seekers practise

spiritual discipline, erroneously with the help of their inert body

etc., to realize God.

Just like in practising the Yoga of Meditation for a long time,

gradually fixing one's mind on God, when the 'citta' (mind) gets

controlled, having no worldly attachment and itself being inert, and

incapable of realising God, it becomes unconcerned with the world. On

the citta (mind) becoming unconcerned, the seeker becomes completely

cut off from the mind or inertness, and he gains experience of Godhead

automatically (Gita 6.20). But a seeker, who from the very beginning,

having accepted his axiomatic and eternal unison with God, accepting

no kinship in the least bit with inert matter, traverses the course of

his discipline, he experiences the Supreme Tattva (essence) very

quickly and with great ease.

Parents give us birth. Educational institutions provide object-based

knowledge. But it is the Spiritual Guru who alone can bestow the

unique Soul-birth. With loving care and watchfulness, he takes the

seeker to Wisdom and fulfillment. To have a Guru as the teacher and

guide is thus the greatest fortune and blessing son one's life.

For Strong Hair and Nails ....

Kelp is a seaweed derivative that's high in minerals, which is great

for strengthening hair and nails. Sprinkle half a teaspoon of kelp

I have come to give you bliss,

To uproot your ignorance

Of your concept of reality,

To instill in you the value of truth-

A love for all.

I have come to give you what you " need " ,

Do not tell Me what you " want " ,

For your need for Me, and My need for you,

Envelopes us in a bond together,

Strong and inseparable.

Wanting preoccupies your mind,

With thoughts other than Mine,

Leaving your heat beat unsteady,

Your mind ruffled.

So know your " need " ,

Dispose of your " wants "

I have come to give you bliss.

Come and rest in it.

Dear Members

" Hindu Dharma " is a book published by Bharatiya Vidya

Bhavan which contains English translation of two volumes of the Tamil

Book " Deivatthin Kural " ; which is a collection of invaluable and

engrossing speeches of Sri Sri Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi

MahaSwamiji.

To Discover The One Truth

All

Vedas have one common goal though there are differences among

their adherents. What is the goal? It is the well-being of the

entire world and all creatures living in it, and the uplift of

the Self of each one of us and its everlasting union with the

Ultimate Reality.

We

may take pride in the Vedas for another reason also. They do not

point to a single way and proclaim, " This alone is the

path " nor do they affirm, " This is the only God "

with reference to their own view of the Supreme Being. Instead,

they declare that, if one adheres to any path with faith or

worships any deity with devotion, one will be led towards the

Truth. The scripture of no other religion speaks thus of the many

paths to liberation. On the contrary, each of them insists that

the way shown by it alone will lead to liberation. The Vedas

alone give expresion to the high-minded view that different

people may take different paths to discover the one and only

Truth.
