Every individual is interested in personality development and

excellence in life. A harmonious growth of physical, the mental, the

intellectual and the spiritual dimention is essencial for the all-

round development of personality. Struggle for perfection in all

these aspects will lead us to the development of real personality

known as kaivalyam of moksham which is the ultimate of human birth.

Sankarabhagavadpada has graced the mankind with his prakarana text

or expository work in the name of Atmanaatmavivekam giving the

essence of vedas for real personality developoment. In the path of

spirituality, the very first sutra of the Brahmasutras of Badarayana

is ' athato brahmajijnasa ' -- " Hence deliberation of Brahman

should be undertaken thereafter " . The word 'thereafter' reveals that

enquiry into the real nature of the Supreme must be done only after

some requirement is met. In them, the sadhana chatustayam can get

realisation of the Supreme and so, liberation. The first of sadhana

chatustayam is 'VIVEKA' or descrimination.

An aspirant should differentiate between eternal, which is Brahman,

and the transcient, which is all else -- Atmanatmavivekam. Only who

knows '' this is eternal; and the transient, which is all else will

tend to withdraw his mind from the transient world. We will try to

listen and understand various constituents of this prakarana text in

our Telugubhaktipages one after another.

I request you to listen 'Atmanatmavivekam' during these auspicious

days of Uttarayana.
