Meaning

 

You may perform the rites of sacrifice, or follow the eight-fold path of yoga,

But neither will bring you to peace in the current age; These are only tiresome

activities of the mind, And usually bring only pride.

 

Without, true, heart-felt love for God, You’ll not attain knowledge of Him.

How is it possible to experience union with Him, without the Guru’s grace?

 

Without the discipline of sadhana, He cannot be attained. In order to receive,

one must know how to give; Give your love, and He’ll shower you with grace.

 

Jnanadev says: I tell from my own experience that to cross the ocean of birth

and death, the way is in the company of saints only.

yoga yaaga vidhii yeNe.n nohe siddhi . vaayaa.nchi upaadhi daMbhadharma .. 1..

bhaave.nviiNa deva na kaLe niHsa.ndeha . guruviiNa anubhava kaisaa kaLe .. 2..

tapeviiNa daivata didhalyaaviiNa praapta . gujeviiNa hita koNa saa.nge .. 3..

GYaanadeva maarga dR^ishhTaa.ntaachii maata . saadhuuche sa.ngatii taruNopaaya
