Guest guest
Radhe Krishna To All, “Those who chant the Mahamantra even once in this Kali Yuga are assured of 'Moksha' (liberation).” ---– SRI SRI MURALIDHARA SWAMIJI ---------------------- Narsi started living with his brother, getting along with his regular chores of Bhagavat parayan (reading the text of Srimad Bhagavatam), Kirtan (Singing the Lord’s names and glories) and Meditation. He stopped attending his regular school and spent all the time in Krishna bhakti. At an appropriate age, Narsi’s brother had Narsi married to a highly pious and devoted girl Manikka devi. Narsi and his wife started living together at a separate house. Though married, Narsi’s bhakti scaled up greater heights. He always spent his time singing kirtans and reciting Srimad Bhagavata slokas in front of his deity “Venugopala”, the posture of Lord Krishna playing his mellifluous flute. He could never forego his devotion for sensuous worldly pleasures. His wife Manikka devi was equally pious and would never intrude on the devotion of Narsi. She always stood by her husband’s unswerving devotion to the Lord and ran the family with what little Narasimha Mehta would bring home after his Nama Kirtan in the streets. It was a practice in those days that every house holder offers something to Sadhus who perform Nama Kirtan, on a daily basis and this was the only means of a sadhu’s livelihood. Though meager, Narsi lived with great contentment singing the praise of his sweet Lord. We all know his famous song – ‘Vaishnava Janato…’ What was the incident we believe has caused this song to flow out of the divine lips of this great saint? The kirtans of true devotees are real gems shining in the glory of its purity and serenity, withstanding the tough test of time and illumining everybody into a devotion filled life. Narsi’s heart was filled with immense love for his Lord which ebbed out as devotion- filled kirtans. Every word of his kirtan conveyed deeper and subtle ideas of Bhakti bhavas. Narsi became a member of a congregation formed by a few devotees of Junaghat. This group maintained certain ideals and principles. Narsi loved solitude. He always remained drowned in the inexplicable bliss of kirtan. He found it difficult to adhere to these rules and regulations. As a result he was thrown out of the congregation. This disturbed Narsi. He was a not the ordinary kind of devotee and hence no mundane rule could bind him. He had read Srimad Bhagavatam and imbibed all the qualities of a true devotee. Musing over what had happened his mind dwelled upon the Bhagavatam verses; and this gave birth to the immortal kirtan ‘Vaishnava janato’. This unique kirtan explains the conduct of the true devotee of the Lord, under all circumstances. !!! Will Continue !!!
