In this context Rigveda bhashyam says-----------  Baala budhir angulagushtabhyaam naasika chhidra mava rudyah pranaayaama kriyathe sa khalu sishtaisthya jyah----------  That means closing the nose and doing pranayama  is the lowest method of practising  pranayama sadhana  which should not be adopted by sistha jana[intelligent people] In  the above said method of doing pranayama[closing nose and doing] there is every possibility  of a sadhaka spoiling his health because  one has to do forceful or un-natural kumbhakam So what is the right method? sastras say that out of all -----------doing pranayama through sushmna is uttamam..How can one know about it? Here comes the need of a living Guru who can teach us how to do this pranayama. This is also called as antarmukha pranayama and one who practices this can't exhbit it in public as it is the highest secret which should  be maintained through out our life. Ofcourse we can disclose it to another who is also in the same path. Let me give you some caliculative part of kriya yoga How 1+1=2  in mathematics in kriya yoga also if a sadhaka does certain numbers gain certain things like  12 uttama pranayamas take us to the stage Pratyahara. Here sadhaka will be detached from the influence of his five Indriyas 144 uttama pranayamas take a sadhaka in to dharana state. Dharana in to Atmagnanam 1728 uttama pranayamas take a sadhaka in to Dhyana state.[Normally people close their eyes and sit straight saying that they are doing dhyana.But  real dhyana state is achieved only  after 1728 uttama pranayamas] 20,736 uttama pranayamas take a sadhaka in to samadhi state.. These facts are revealed by Param Guru Sri Sri Shyama Charan Lahiri Mahasaya . When we take  initiation  from a Sadguru and satrt doing sadhana we do adhama pranayama in the beginning. As we practice more and more we slowly go to madhyama pranayama. Finally when sushmna opens we go to uttama pranayama.Then the  above said results can be achieved.
