Being Free from Fears and Desires - Part 1

Question: Can I say something Maharajji! You say to leave this (i.e.

leave the desire for seeing equanimity within), but we feel fearful

inside. We get thoughts like by leaving could it possibly lead to our

downfall?

Swamiji: Therefore I have said again and again, leave because I say

so. Why do I say this? Since you are the one who is afraid, the effect

of your fear is projected on me. You are being fearful.

Therefore I am saying to you, do not be afraid. So long as you

continue to hold on to fear, till then you will not experience your

natural (innate) state. This hold itself is the obstacle in

realizing your innate state. There is no other obstacle. There is

never any downfall in the Light. That light is the same, in both

inclination, as well as, disinclination. Tell me does it have any

affect or modifications to the Light? When there is no affect

(modifications) to the Light then how can it have a downfall? You

believe that your inner being (antahkarna) should become uniform

(unaltered). If that were to happen, God in the Gita while

mentioning the qualities of the great persons who have risen above

the three attributes (gunas) would not have declared -

" Prakaashum cha pravrittim che mohameva che Pandava;

ne drshti sampravrrittaani, ne nivruttaani kankshati. " (Gita 14:22)

Such a person feels no aversion to light (which is born of sattva),

or activity (which is born of Rajas) or stupor (which is born of

Tamasa), when they are present and does not long for them when they

are absent.

Why would such a thing be said? If Light, activity and stupor were

there, then " ne dweshti sanpravrutaani ne nivruttaani kaankshati "

how could it be said by Sri Bhagwaan?

(to be continued)
