namaste,

We  all worship  godess  Durga  during  navaratri We  perform  daily  pooja

and  homam etc. Our  rishis  wanted  to  tell us   something  through  this

worship also. They  have  proved  how  a  sadhaka  can  control  his  dasa

pranas [10pranas] or  dasa  indriyas

Ma Durga  has  ten  hands that  represents  the  10  pranas  in  our body. The

main  five  pranas  are  prana, apana, vyanavudana and samana. The  five  vupa

pranas  are naga, koorma, kukura, devadatta and  dhananjaya. All  the  activities

of the  body  are  done  through  these 10  pranas

We  can  see  a  lion  near  Her  charanam[leg] .It looks  as  though  the

Mother  is  controlling  the  lion  but  not  kill  it.

A  lion  represents  the  element  of  kama  or  desire  which  is  important

for  the  creation .So  one  should  control  it  but  not to  kill

Ma  Durga  killed  asura[demon] This  asura  represents  the  element  of

anger  in  our body and we  all should  kill this

We  see Ma Lakshmi at   Her  side and  also  an  owl  which  is  the  chariot

of    Ma Lakshmi. While  doing  sadhana   a  sadhaka  is  bestowed  with wealth

and prosperity

Then  what  is  this  owl  represents?

An  owl  is  nocternal  and  cannot  see during  day  time. But  it  can  se

only  when  it  is  dark. This  means  when  a  sadhaka  is  bestowed  with

wealth or  prosperity  there is  every  possibility  that  he  can  deviate

from  his  path  and  start  enjoying life. So  the  owl   is  a  warning  that

one  should  not  forget  the  real path  and become  like  him  .

The  other side  of  Durga   we  see  Ma Saraswathi  with  her  chariot  a Swan.

A swan   represents  Gnana because  in this  world  only  a  swan  can

separate  milk  from  water. When  a  sadhaka  reaches  this  stage  he  is

called  paramahansa.Like  the  swan  a  paramahansa  can   realise  whats truth

and  what  is not. But  his [sadhaka's]  travel  is  not   finished  because  he

has  to  go  beyond  this

[Taken  from  The  book  pranamayam jagath]

In devine love i  remain

kumari
