Guest guest
Faulty View – Seeing Faults in Others Due to one's pride in one's own qualities, one sees faults in others, and by noticing faults in others, one's pride gets even stronger. If you do not want anyone to think badly of you, then you have no right to think badly of others. By not thinking of others as bad, goodness arises from within. Goodness from within is solid and pervasive. An aspirant wanting to become free of any flaws, must not look at the faults in others. Observing the faults in others neither benefits us, nor does it benefit the one being judged. This would only reinforce one's own faults, and by associating with these faults, new ones will sprout. If we assume certain faults in others, they are likely to acquire those faults. By making note of these faults, our own penance, renunciation, and powers contribute to the strengthening of their faults, and the persons truly become as we see them (with faults). In return, this will harm us as well. The more impure one's inner faculties are, the more he notices the faults of others. Like a radio tunes into a particular frequency, inner impurities tunes into (attracts) more faults. If you wish to protect your innocence, do not see faults in anybody, neither in yourself, nor in others. If the intent is simply to help others towards self improvement, it may be OK to point their faults. However, what is truly a mistake is to take pleasure in noticing the faults of thers. The Self (Soul, Atman) of all is innocent, so recognize this innocence in all. Assume flaws to be transient, and with that understanding, help in guiding others towards eliminating these flaws.
