Guest guest
Equanimity and Freedom from Bondage " As wise men, endowed with equanimity (Samta), renounce the fruits resulting from actions or in other words, renouncing the world, freed from the shackles of births, attain the blissful Supreme state. " (Gita 2:51) " Karmajam buddhiyuktaa hi phalam tyaktvaa manisinah janmabandhavinirmuk taah padam gacchantyanaamayam. " (Gita 2:51) Those endowed with equanimity, they in reality are the wise ones. A man who does not hate disagreeable actions, nor is attached to agreeable actions, is wise. (Gita 18:10). An action even without the desire for its fruit, will bring about fruit. No one is capable of dispensing with it's fruit. Just like a farmer sows corn seed in a field, without a selfish motive, then will there not be any corn? Whatever is sown will inevitably germinate. Similarly, if a person works in a detached spirit, he will definitely get its fruit, but it will not lead to bondage. Therefore here, the renunciation of fruit means, renouncing the manifest and latent desire for fruit and attachment for fruit. All are free and capable of renouncing such desires. The wise aspirants, endowed with equanimity of mind are freed from the birth and death cycle. As, he who is established in equanimity, they do not in the least bit possess flaws, such as attachment and aversion, desires, tendencies etc., therefore there remains no reason for future births. Thus they become free from the shackles of birth and death forever. In " padam gacchantyanaamayam " , " Aamaya " means ailment. An ailment is a blemish. A thing which is free from all blemishes is called " anaamaya " (flawless). Wise men endowed with equanimity attain the state which is free from any kind of blemish. This state has been called eternal state (Gita 15:5) and " everlasting imperishable state " in Gita 18:56. Although in Gita 14:6, sattva quality (the mode of goodness) has also been called flawless, but in reality, the essence of Self (God) is the only thing that is flawless, because by attaining Self (God), one no longer remains in the wheel of birth and death cycle. Lord Krishna has called Sattva quality also flawless, because those qualities, help a man in attaining God Realization. The Karma Yogi - situated in equanimity (Samta) performs actions and crosses the cycle of birth and death, thereby attains God. Therefore, Karma Yoga is an independent discipline in attaining the liberation (Mukti).
