Acharya Adishankara on Sahasranama Bhashya

 

जपसà¥à¤¤à¥ सरà¥à¤µà¤§à¤°à¥à¤®à¥‡à¤­à¥à¤¯à¤ƒ परमो

धरà¥à¤® उचà¥à¤¯à¤¤à¥‡ ।

अहिमà¥à¤¸à¤¯à¤¾ च भूतानां जपयञः

पà¥à¤°à¤µà¤°à¥à¤¤à¤¤à¥‡ ॥

 

In the Mahabharata it is stated; “Of all religious practices, japa (repetition

of divine name) is said to be the supreme practice in as much as it is

accomplished without animal sacrificeâ€

 

Lord Krishna says in Bhagavat Gita

 

यजà¥à¤žà¤¾à¤¨à¤¾à¤‚ जपयजà¥à¤žà¥‹à¤¸à¥à¤®à¤¿

 

Of all forms of sacrifice, I am the sacrifice of Japa.

 

à¤à¤· मे सरà¥à¤µà¤§à¤°à¥à¤®à¤¾à¤£à¤¾à¤®à¥ धरà¥à¤®à¥‹

अधिकतमो मतः।

यदà¥à¤­à¤•à¥à¤¤à¥à¤¯à¤¾ पà¥à¤£à¥à¤¡à¤°à¥€à¤•à¤¾à¤•à¥à¤¶à¤‚

सà¥à¤¤à¤µà¥ˆà¤°à¤°à¥à¤šà¥‡à¤¨à¥à¤¨à¤°à¤ƒ सदा ॥

 

Taking all these facts into consideration, the great Bhishma said, “Of all the

religious practices, I hold this practice (repetition of divine name) to be the

best.â€

 

Chant the Mahamantra Nama kirtan :
