THE MOTHER PONDICHERRY ON SUFFERING

Suffering is always the effect of wrong thought in some direction.

It is an indication that the individual is out of harmony with himself, with the

law of his being.

The sole and supreme use of suffering is to purify; to burn out all that is

useless and impure.

Suffering ceases for him who is pure.

The capacity to suffer is the exact measure of the imperfection.

Any suffering is therefore a precious indication to us of our weak point, of the

point, which demands a greater spiritual effort from us.

Thus, to cure in ourselves this attraction for suffering, we must understand the

absurdity, the petty egoism of the various causes of our sufferings.

My word to you is:

Do not cherish suffering and suffering will leave you altogether.

Suffering is far from being indispensable to progress.

The greatest progress is made through a steady and cheerful equanimity.

Wise man in China had written:

" Thought creates for itself its own suffering. "

One can establish as a general rule that

All that tends towards Disharmony, Disorder and Inertia comes from the

FALSEHOOD; and

All that favors Union, Harmony, Order and Consciousness comes from the TRUTH.

All that brings with or creates,

Peace, Faith, Joy, Harmony, Wideness, Unity, and Ascending growth

comes from the TRUTH;

While all that carries with it,

Restlessness, Doubt, Scepticism, Sorrow, Discord, Selfish Narrowness, Inertia,

Discouragement and Despair

Comes straight from the FALSEHOOD.

AS WE THINK SO WE BECOME.

WE GET ONLY THAT FOR WHICH WE ARE FITTED.

WE GET WHAT WE DESERVE.
