Guest guest
Radhe Krishna To all, Sri Ramanuja saw the mountain filled with various fragrant flowers but none to collect them, string them into garlands and offer them to the Lord. This pained Sri Ramnuja and he wondered, 'can't someone offer these beautiful flowers for the Lord?' Ananthazhwar, a disciple of Sri Ramanuja, reading his Guru's thoughts volunteered to do this service. This was almost a thousand years back. There were wild animals like the tiger and lion in the dense forests. Vasudeva parabrahmam who lived six or seven decades back speaks of wild animals that roamed these forests. What should have been the condition several centuries back? Even today Rameswaram is in a remote area and one wonders how devotees of ancient days went there to worship the Lord. Badarikasrama is not easily accessible even in these modern times yet we find Bhaktas having worshipped the Lord here in days past. In the same way, worship has been conducted to the Lord on Tirumala, also. Seeing tears well up in his Guru's (Sri Ramanuja) eyes Ananthazhwar at once set out to fulfill his (the Guru's) desire. Can one who waits for instructions from the Guru or tries to wriggle out of any work ordained by the Guru be called a sishya or a Bhakta? Realising his Guru's heart's desire Anathazhwar at once set out to Tirupati. He took his wife, who was in the advanced stage of pregnancy, also along with him. They climbed up the mountain and reached the top of the mountain. Ananthazwhar at once engaged himself wholly in building a 'nandavan' (garden) for the Lord. His wife also helped him in digging, drawing water from the well and carrying it to the garden. Did Anathazwar entertain the desire to have darshan of the Lord there with the 'varada hasta'? No. His whole mind was set in serving his Guru through fulfilling his (Guru's) heart’s desire. The Aazhwars have sung several hymns ('paasurams') and this is called 'pa-maalai' (garland of hymns). Anathazhwar was offering 'poo-maalai' (garland of flowers). To string the flowers on the fibre from banana bark, one dips it in water and later the garland is sprinkled with water so that it does not go dry but remains fresh. So too, the Aazhwars have sprinkled and dipped their hymns ('paa-maalai') in their tears; All their hymns were born not out of 'kavita shakti' (poetic ability) but out of their deep devotion to the Lord. Therefore, they remain ever fresh in the world. Anathazhwar's only aim was service to the Guru. The couple toiled day and night to meet the Guru's expectations. Would the compassionate Lord be able to bear this? He took the form of a young boy and rushed to Anathazhwar. The young boy wearing the religious mark on the forehead, a tuft on the head and very lustrous asked Anathazhwar, " What are you doing? " Ananthazhwar the great disciple of Sri Ramanuja quipped, " Mind your own business. " If a person asks us to mind our own business when we try to pick up a dialogue with him, be he even a young boy, we should happily welcome it deeming it to be an advice from the Lord, through him. We should understand that the Lord is advising us not to enter into useless dialogues. We should thank/bless him and not lose our temper. The Lord in the form of a young boy approached Anathazwar's wife to lend a helping hand. She feared her husband and remained quiet. The young boy said to her, " Mother, I will draw the water from the well and carry it a short distance; you may carry it to the garden from there. " But she also remained quiet without accepting his help. The young boy's pleadings to render help falls on deaf ears. !!!
