Guest guest
Sri Shirdi Sai Baba- The incarnation of the Para Brahma Anna Saheb Dabholkar alias Hemadpant narrates a very interesting Leela (miracle) performed by our beloved Samardha sadguru Sri Sai Baba in his Sri Sai Satcharitra. One day in the year 1910, Hemadpant went to masjid in Shirdi to have a darshan of his beloved Guru Sri Sai Baba. Baba after performing his ablutions began preparations for grinding wheat. He kept a hand mill for grinding on a sack spread on the floor. He drew up the sleeves of his Kafni, took a handful of wheat grains and put them in the upper opening of the mill and using the wooden peg of the hand mill started rotating it. After removing the wheat flour, He continued the process. Hemadpant was surprised at this act of Baba and thought Why Baba is grinding the wheat? He possesses nothing, does not do any cooking and lives on alms. This interesting act of Baba has spread throughout the village and soon people gathered in large numbers in front of the mosque and watched the same. No one dared to ask Baba why He is performing such feat. However four bold women went into the mosque, pushed Baba aside, force able the peg into their hands and started grinding the remaining wheat while singing Baba’s leelas. Even though Baba got enraged by this act, but soon gave up to the devotion of the women. The four women while grinding the wheat thought that Baba has possessed nothing and lived on alms, so He does not require wheat flour. Baba being very kind will distribute the flour to us. Our food requirement for the next week is thus taken care of. After finishing grinding, they kept the hand mill aside and divided the flour into four parts. Without hesitation they began to pack their quota. Sai Baba who was calm and quiet till now got wild and started shouting on the four women. Oh Women. Have you gone mad? Is this your fathers property that you are trying to take away or did I borrow anything from you? Now, do one thing. Take this flour and spread it all along the border of our village. Cholera epidemic is fast spreading towards Shirdi and I insisted Cholera Goddess to consume wheat flour instead of human beings. Hearing to Sai Baba, the women felt ashamed for their menial thinking and immediately went to the outskirts of the village, sprinkled the flour as advised by Sri Sai Baba. People of Shirdi were astonished to see that from that day onwards, the Cholera epidemic has subsided very fast without loss of life. They became very happy and realized the greatness of Baba who has cured the epidemic of cholera by his yoga shakti and saved thousands of people. Hemadpant says that he was astonished at this miracle of Baba and realized that Baba is not an ordinary Yogi but an incarnation of the Parabrahman who has descended to the earth for protecting Dharma and His devotees. Then and there he has decided to collect all such miracles of Shri Sai Baba and write a complete biography on Baba which materialized later with the grace and blessings of Baba,The Sai Satcharitra originally written in Marathi and later translated into all Indian languages. Baba during his 60 years of stay at Shirdi did the act of grinding everyday.. He used to say on many occasions to his disciples that Atma Sakshatkaara or self realization is not possible unless our impulses, desires, wishes, sins and the three gunas are ground like wheat. It is also a symbolic act of grinding of miseries, physical and mental afflictions of his innumerable devotees whom He protected all the time. He preached that using the Jyaana and Bhakti, we have to grind our karmas which are responsible for the shaping of human lives.
