Guest guest
The Three Powers Human Beings have three powers - power to do, power to know and power to believe (accept). No man can ever say that I do nothing at all and do not desire to do anything at all; I do not know anything and do not want to know anything; and I do not believe anything and do not desire to believe anything. Man not only does things (performs actions), but he also desires to do. He not only knows, but he also desires to know, and he not only believes, but also desires to believe. When Yog (Union) becomes linked with these three - doing, knowing and believing, then all these three are capable of liberating us. When there is yog (union) in conjunction with " doing " , then it becomes " Karmayog " . When there is yog (union) along with " knowing " , then it becomes " Jnanayog " and when there is yog (union) attached with " believing " , then it becomes " Bhaktiyog " . Yog will happen when there is " Equanimity " (samtaah) - " Samatvam yog ucchyate " (Gita 2/48). Equanimity means there is no attraction and aversion, no elation and dejection etc. There is one extraordinary point. There is no one such that he cannot engage in spiritual disciplines. There is none that cannot walk the path towards Paramatma (God). It is a different story that one does not want to walk the path towards Paramatma and does not wish to engage in spiritual practices. If he wants he can engage in spiritual disciplines. This human birth has been received for that purpose only. This human birth is for engaging in spiritual disciplines. It is for performing one's duties. All other births are only for sense enjoyments, for enjoying or suffering the consequences of past actions. Man has the power to do. He has certain zeal and enthusiasm to do. " After doing this, then what will I do? " - such a question arises in human beings alone. From this one can gauge that within man there is an impulse to do. This impulse " to do " will not dissipate on doing things for one's self, rather it will increase. When anything is done for one's self then the movement towards doing will increase. This act of doing and attaining something (by doing this, I will get this) - when these two elements remain then it will not be Karmayog (Attaining Union through Discipline of Action), rather it will only be karma (action). When actions are done for others, then the impulse to do will be wiped out, rather there will be nothing remaining to be done.
