Guest guest
Priya Bhagavat Banduvullara, VOICE OF THE RISHIS -9 " ANNAM AADITYA MAYAM " --ANNA SOOKTAM In Vedic texts Sun God (Aditya) occupies the foremost position. The sun itself is said to be God, is God is God " (Asaa vaadityo Brahma, Brahmeti, Brahmaivasan Brahmapnoti, Asavadityo Brahma). This very sun is God and this quote states that 'Annam' the food is full of Sun God (Aaditya Mayam) This is how food is venerated as the very shining sun.Bhagavadgita ordains that every aspirant, a seeker after God, should partake satvic diet. And this bland but nutritious diet consiting of satvic items of menu equals in effect to that of the sun (aditya) and when eaten produces shining thoughts. Whole wheat, rice, greengram, cowmilk, cow butter, juicy fruits, consist the satvic diet -- " Ahara Suddhou Sativa Suddhi " . Such food becomes the shining food or full of sunlight. The adage goes " As the food taken, so is the man " . Hence so many injunctions are given in all religions so that the food that man partakes will give him the sun shine in his life. In modern times food is analysed only in an obective way as carbohydrates, fats, calcium, etc but not by the mental qualities that different types of food produce different attitudes in life, as given out in Gita.
