Guest guest
Priya Bhagavat Banduvulllara, VOICE OF THE RISHIS - 13 AMRITAM VISHA SAMASRITAM Nector-Amritam- follows poision - Visha samasritam. This adage sounds strange, bringing to opposites together, at tandem. This saying has great medical significance. All poisons by application of the rules of pharmacopia are turned into great valuable remedies serving as nector saving the sick from the clucthes of death. Poisons are metamorphosed into medicines, producing an ambrosial effect or nector. A legend in the epic describes that when the angels-suras-on one side, and the demons-asuras- on the other sie were churning the ocean of milk - Ksheera samudram -, a great fearful - Halahala - emerged first, which the worlds could not bear. And Lord Shiva came out, gulped it and contained it in his throat. Hence Lord Shiva is known as " Garalakantha " , poison bearer in the throat. After the poison emerged the nector, which brings immortality to its recipient. Thus Amritam, nector follows " Visham " poison. In Ayurveda and Homeopathy the systems in their Pharmacoepia like Aconite-- Naabhi -- Conium, Snake poisons into great life saving medicines. Viewed metaphorically this saying hints that sunlight follows the darknight, after thunder comes the calm, and after a fear of defeat, victory emerges.
