VOICE OF THE RISHIS - 14

AALASYADANNA DOSHACHCHA

MRITYURVIPRAN JIGHAM SATI

This means that vipras or Brahmins ( here brahmins

means those Sadhakas who have Teetksha to know Brahma Jnana, not born

in a particular caste), or seekers after truth or Brahma go to hell

by their transgressions to the strict adherence to the studious

readings of Vedas and also to the rules of dietics, or approved items

of food in their menu.

It should be known that stringent rules on taking food, the

items, the timings, the preparation of cuisine were imposed upon, on

the sainthood in early days. Taking fruits soft, bland but palatable

food without much spices and condiments has been ordained in the

scripts to be followed by the aspirants or sadhus. Violation in the

observance of the regulation are said to be severly punishable under

several norms. Any violation of food is called " ANNA DOSHA " , mistake

in partaking the wrong food " the above quote states. Mostly

vegetarian diet is only allowed to be taken by the saints.

It may be asked why so much of premium has been laid upon the

nature of food. In Bhagavadgita it is stated that satvic or plain

diet only is cherished by the saints or people seeking to lead

saintly lives. In all religions, we find such restrictions are

imposed upon in this way by its followers. It is said, man is what

he eats. May be a debatable point to many. But the adage is for

what it is.
