Guest guest
PRIYA BHAGAVAT BANDUVULLARA! VOICE OF THE RISHIS - 27 AHHAARA SUDDHOU, SATVA SUDDHIHI BHAGAVAT GITA - 17TH CHAPTER " The pure food is, so the thoughts are, states Lord Krishna to Arjuna in the holy book Bhagavad Gita. Food affects the mind or the thinking style is a good concept of Vedic system, which is often questioned by the western scientists. What has good to do with the thoughts is the moot question. Food has been analyzed in an abjective style, whereas this ancient Vedic thought has contributed a subjective concept. Indeed this thought has given birth to vegetarianism. All religious scriptures have given certain items of food as tabooed. They are forbidden to be eaten and any transgression is construed as an irreligious act. Eating pork is forbidden in Koran, eating of the flesh of animals that do not chew, or that of the animals without the forked hoofs i.e., horse, donkey, etc., is also forbidden in the old Testament of the Bible. Similarly vedic scripts including Gita, ordain that one should take only saatvic diet, that is bland diet, non smelly, not too sour, saltish nor pungent but delicious, pleasing, wholesome, and nutritious helpful in aspects of strength and longevity. These include fruits, vegetables, cereals, diary products like cow milk, cow ghee, cow yoghurt (curds) etc., It is said that this type of saatvic diet, when taken for long years makes the aspirant become pure in his thought and actions. Hence all sages and saints in India consider taking pure, Holy or saatvic as a `sine qua non' for spiritual upliftment.
