PRIYA BHAGAVAT BANDUVULLARA!

VOICE OF THE RISHIS – 30 : COURTEY SHRI RAPARLA JANARDHANA RAO

UTTISHATANTHU BHOOTHA PISACHAH

-YAJUR VEDA

In every day ritual, at the commencement of the prayer this mantra

is to be recited. The full text goes like this " Uttishantu Bootha

Pisachaah, Yete Bhoomi Bharakah, Yetesham Avarodhena, Brahama Karma

Samarabhe "

" You, evil spirits! (Bhoota, Pisachas) burdening the world, go

hence, (vanish) you hindering devilish agencies, I am now commencing

the Lord's prayer " .

The aspirant chanting this text at the beginning of the Holy Prayer

sprinkles a few drops of water on his head and few around him with

the spoon signifying, that he is readying himself ridding himself

from the burdening or negativating evil forces of mind and of the

matter. This, indeed, is the right beginning of a day's work.

Man should get rid himself of the evil forces both physical and

spiritual, which stand as stumbling blocks in his way of spiritual

progress.

These demonical negative forces not only have a deleterious effect

on man, and they are here termed as burden to the world (bhoomi

bharakaah). This great prayer indicates how evil forces in the mind

of a person, not only harm him, but also ultimately proves a burden

to the world. The recognition of the burdening or hindering forces

of the world and attempt or invocation for their removal, are the

two significant features of consideration in this prayer.
