Guest guest
Guru Purnima Today is Guru Purnima Day. The importance of this day in the life of a sadhaka cannot be truly described in words. The fortunate sadhaka, who is initiated by a spiritual Guru, today remembers and sings glories of his/her Guru and feels fulfilled. Shaunaka, well known as a great householder, having approached Angiras duly, asked, " O adorable sir, which is that thing which having been known, all this becomes known? " And nothing else remains to be known! In other words he asked: " There are in the world varieties of pieces of gold etc., which are known by ordinary people from the recognized fact of the substantial oneness of gold etc. Similarly does there exist a single substance that is the cause of the whole universe of diversity, by knowing which one substance all things become known? " And the wise and realized Teacher replies: " There are two kinds of knowledge to be acquired - the higher and the lower; this is what, as tradition runs, the knowers of the import of the Vedas say. " And the Guru continues to define higher and lower knowledge: " Of these, the lower comprises of the Vedas - Rig, Yajur, Sama, Atharva; the science of pronunciation, etc.; the code of the rituals; grammar; etymology; metre; and astrology. Then there is higher knowledge by which is attained that Imperishable. " (From Mundaka Upanishad) Thus continues the teaching of the highest order, and soon the disciple experiences the Truth as revealed by the Knowledgeable Teacher.
