Hi Neeta,

Our hearts ache with you at this awful juncture of your life. I know how it feels to lose a child as I lost my brother when he was 8 years old and saw the effect it had on my parents. Many years have passed but inspite of the many books I have read and numerous spirtual practises, its very difficult for me to accept that this was what was destined for my family.

Swamiji has said that if it was the karma of one person to suffer its the karma of another person to help him. I am sure that most of the members feel this kind of bonding with you as they are devoted to Swamiji.

There are 2 ways you can take from here:

One is I sincerly hope you dont take.. That of carrying on with life and cursing now and then why this happened to me and getting depressed.

The only real way to take this terrible loss is to turn to God with more tenacity and a belief that nothing other than God is True. This HARD blow was given to me so that I may wake up and realize my true identity. God is smiling on me definetly even through the now seemingly infinite misery I am going through....

I have seen people who ask the question why this happened to me in such instances ?? go crazy and mad .. Rather ask the question how can I get out of this misery ?? Is there a way out of this drudgery of human existence.. COnvince yourself that all blows are meant to awaken the sleeping giant in you, the deathless , the sorrowless, the fearless atman. Realize that you are strong and let this massive blow be your foundation on which you base your spiritual life on.

I have written the above because everytime I feel that "why should I do meditation and Japa", why should I believe in God and lead a pure life I just go one step back and remember my Dear Brother who died in front of me at the tender age of 8 and remember that God is truly our only solace.. only person who can give us rest and comfort.. Reaching him we will find our eternal rest. You will be in our prayers in coming out victorious from this massive shock.. We have nothing but empathy for you.

Namaste,

Here is the ideal that Hindu scriptures hold forth:

There is a very

beautiful section in the first canto of Srimad Bhagavatam

entitled " The

Prayers of Queen Kunti " . Kunti was the mother of the Pandavas and

she

has given so many nice prayers:

" My dear Krishna, Your Lordship has protected us from a poisoned

cake, from a great fire, from cannibals, from the vicious

assembly,

from sufferings during our exile in the forest, and from the

battle

where great generals fought. And now You have saved us from the

weapon of Asvatthama.

" I wish that these calamities would happen again and again so

that

we could see You again and again, for seeing You means that we

will

no longer see repeated births and deaths.

" My Lord, Your Lordship can easily be approached, but only by

those

who are materially exhausted. One who is on the path of

[material]

progress, trying to improve himself with respectable parentage,

great opulence, high education and bodily beauty, cannot approach

You with sincere feeling.

" My obeisances are unto You, who are the property of the

materially

impoverished. You have nothing to do with the actions and

reactions

of the material modes of nature. You are self-satisfied, and

therefore You are the most gentle and are master of the monists.

" My Lord, I consider Your Lordship to be eternal time, the

supreme

controller, without beginning and end, the all-pervasive one. In

distributing Your mercy You are equal to everyone. The

dissensions

between living beings are due to social intercourse. "

(Srimad Bhagavatam 1.8.24-28)

Regards,

Sunder
