I fully concur that Swamiji presented a vision of integrated Hinduism

perhaps not seen since the times of Adi Shankaracharya (he established the

Shanmatha, or worship of Shiva, Devi, Vishnu, Surya, Ganapathi and Kumara or

Subramanya as all being equivalent to worshipping facets of the Self or

brahman, the ONLY EXISTING REALITY).

 

However, interestingly, exactly what you have said has been attempted very

recently, in 2001. The heads of all the traditional maths of India including

all the five Sankaracharyas have joined together to form what is called

" Acharya Sabha " . Swami Dayananda Saraswathi of the Arsha Vidya Gurukulam is

the coordinator. There is also an allied organization called All-India

Movement for Seva (AIM for SEVA). The idea is to not only bring together the

religious leadership but to also work for the social upliftment of the

poorer sections of the society. Please see link below.
