Dear Ones...Jesus is my chosen ideal, but there are no physically

living gurus in his lineage. I have been told that Jesus IS a living

master, but not in the body, and that I don't need a guru. What are

your thoughts on this?

I meditate using a mantra from the World Community of Christian

Meditation.

Many gurus, and many of our Swamis of the Ramakrishna Order, will initiate

with a mantra for Jesus.

Of course Jesus is a living master. And he is in a body, a spiritual body,

which Sri Ramakrishna saw, recognized, and merged with. (The story is told

in " Sri Ramakrishna The Great Master " by Swami Saradananda, p. 339.)

But more to the point, every step is important, not just gatting the mantra.

Above all the friendship and guidance of a Swami is an invaluable help in

spiritual life. The relationship itself is the spiritual transmission. It

is highly important to have that connection with a living tradition through

a relationship with someone who is already part of it, and you can do no

better than the Ramakrishna Order for authenticity and integrity! Without

delay the Swami will teach you how to meditate on your Chosen Ideal, and in

due time mantra would be given in the context of his trusted relationship

with you.

So perhaps you would like to get acquainted with one of the Swamis at a

Vedanta Center nearest to your place or residence. The procedure would be

to call on the phone or attend a service in person, and request an interview

with the Swami.

Blessings,

Shivaram Das

Thank you, dear Shivaram. I would love to go to a center, but the

nearest one to me is in Chicago (which is a 3 hour drive), and I am

in poor health. What would you suggest I do in the meantime?

Dear Ms. Katie:

I was about to write the same thing in reply. But Mr. Shivaram Das has written the same thing (which I wanted to say) in a much better way. My thanks to Mr. Das for his valuable suggestions. I sincerely hope, Ms. Katie, that you are going to make wonderful progress in your spiritual striving. May Lord Jesus help you by all means.

Regards.
