Guest guest
Dear Jay I really appreciate the last part of your mail where you have minced no words about celibacy and the ostritch approach of many of the modern Hindu teachers who prefer to disguise the need for celibacy and worse still even say that its not necessary. Perhaps the only teacher in the past 5 decades who i know of and who has minced no words is Swami Sivananda founder of the Divine Life Society who stood up and said that celibacy is most important. His book The Practise of Brahmacharya is a masterpiece where he has openly discussed the need for it. There is a mistaken feeling that youth will get put off if celibacy is emphasised. For instance I am not a celibate but am sure that that it is goal to be pursued whatever time it may take for me to attain it. And the ultimate point is that fear of putting off the Hindu youth should not make us corrupt our ideals. It needs just one hero who stands up and comes forward to embrace the highest ideal and achieve the highest goal and he can shake the whole world with his energy. We do not need crowds and masses of half believers for they will only do more damage. Quality and not numbers are what we should seek. For every so called Hindu youth by birth, who gets put off there will be sincere seekers from all across the globe who will stand up to the ideal. Pranams - dev Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. Guest guest
Dear Dev, You are absolutely right in stressing celibacy. The lack of this teaching is causing many problems in the world today. Being somewhat well versed in medicine let me share certain physiological facts behind celibacy or lack of it. The fluid that carries the semen in men is composed of the brain and spinal fluid. This is why many patients who overindulge report confusion and weakness. This fact is well known to every medical practitioner but they do not reveal it because it goes against the allopathic version of disease. All alternative forms of medicine lay a lot of stress on celibacy. Allopathy, by suppressing the disease instead of curing it, plays havoc with the psychological makeup of the patient. Introduction of animal serum by way of vaccinations is also a very great hazard. Homoeopathy ascribes " psora " or the polluted mind to be the source of disease. This should be caution enough for the youth of today. Guest guest
I see that a couples of mails have been posted giving positive aspects of Celibacy etc including supportive medical evidence, which is good, but we should explain it to the youth in simpler terms. The only reason I admire Celibacy, is because it just creates more space in the mind to think of higher ideals. Of course there are other benefits like self control, will power etc ... A person spends so much of his/her times thinking sensual thoughts that there is not much time left to find god. I myself can see that my mind is so clutterred up with all kind of thought including sensual that to even look towards the inner self is a horrendous challenge. I don't think that Hindu youth will be put off if you explain that Celibacy help a person create more mind space to fulfill the supreme goal of human existence, that is to find God. Though the youth will not become Celibate because of that, they will appreciate why Celibacy is important for Hindus and appreciate the Hindu philosophy more and have more admiration for the great leaders of India, of whom many are/were celibate.
