Can anyone respond to the following

interesting question from John? .....jay

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~question~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi Jay
A friend is asking about the attitude of Hindus towards organ
transplants.
The question asked is whether Hindus object or not to organ
donation or reception; and, what about trans-caste transplants?
In Hindu Press International, I remember reading something about
poor women in India, having sold a kidney and still not having solved
their financial problem. What a world we live in!
Please let me have your opinion on this, or suggest some
Internet link that may throw some light on this subject.
Thanks
Regards
John
Dear John,
There is nothing in Hinduism that speaks again organ
transplants. I have studied some ancient Indian texts
of medicine which suggests that organ transplants were
discussed even in ancient times.
Interestingly even those who suggest a very strict
caste system would not baulk from receiving an organ
from a different caste donor when they need it. The
hope of/attachment towards life seems to be a great
leveller.
Yes there are numerous instances in India where people
are forced to sell their kidneys for a pitiable sum.
Many are also duped in illfamed hospitals where
kidneys are removed without their knowledge.
This is indeed kali yuga where men eat men.
Jagannath
