Guest guest
Our Hanuman story, and the relevance of Celibacy has done a lot of mileage. We received quite a number of responses. One came from David Frawley (Vamadev) saying, Excellent comments on Hanuman. <snip> Jai Hanuman! He is not a member of our list but somehow heard the story. Some other responses came from people who commented that surely Celibacy cannot be that essential as some God man like Chaitanya, married twice... What about Papaji.....Ma Anandamayi...etc they were all married? This seems like a valid point. Our response has been:- The reason why celibacy is crucial is because it is highly unlikely that we can experience that we are 'not the mind and the body' but the 'spirit' if at the same time we continue to lust after another body! If anyone did a careful study of many of these personalities we suspect that they will find that most were practising celibacy closer to the time of their spiritual experiences. 'Lust' and 'Spirit' just cannot co-exist. One of the unique personalities of this age is Sri Ramakrishna. He was married and yet lived an absolute celibate life. What an unusual life style! A new interpretation of Marriage: - " Spiritual companionship not licence for lust! " Vivekananda Centre London
