Guest guest
Hello List! Doubts never get extinguished till one enters the realm of supersensory experience. This fact notwithstanding, could the list throw some light on the following incident? The Holy Mother has categorically stated that the service of the Sangha (Ramakrishna Order) amounts to the service of Sri Ramakrishna. She is also on record to have observed that any command from the organisation should be treated as a command from Sri Ramakrishna. Swami Vivekananda, Swami Brahmananda, Swami Shivananda and other Presidents of the Order have also made similar observations. Then, how does one assimmilate the following incident in the life of Swami Virajananda : Swami Virajananda was asked by Swami Saradananda, the then General Secretary, to go to USA and participate in the spread of the Ramakrishna movement there. Swami Virajananda refused and it was later revealed that The Holy Mother had appeared to him in a vision and asked him not to go. How does one comprehend this incident?!! Guest guest
Namaste, The question raised here seems to be based on information that is COMPLETELY contradictory to that given in Swami Shraddhananda's biography of Swami Virajananda - " The Story of an Epoch - Swami Virajananda and his Times " ; 1st edition, 1982, Ramkrishna Math, Madras; pp.104-119. I would like to urge readers not to raise 'loaded' questions without quoting 'chapter and verse' for the information on which they are based. Even on the face of it, Sw. Saradananda would NEVER have gone against Mother's wishes. To imply that Sw. Virajananda 'refused' Sw. S.'s decision and needs an explanation has no merit whatsoever. Kali Mother has removed unceremoniously from the scene of Thakur's activities anyone who had the pride of possessiveness about Him - including Hriday and Brahmani! So none can ever need doubt that whatever happens is by Her/His will only. Guest guest
Greetings: I believe Debajit raised a fair question (if, uninformed, according to Sunder) for our List, and Sunder provided a sound answer to his specific inquiry. However, an important, broader question remains: Does the Ramakrishna Order claim the same type of " Papal Infallibility " for its leadership as does the Roman Catholic Church (i.e., the Pope " speaks " for Christ on matters of faith and morality)? I would think the evidence from religious history would demonstrate that, once a religion's founder had passed on, the organizational structure left behind became more human, and less divine. This historical record leads me, as a lay devotee of both Christ and Ramakrishna, to surrender my ultimate intellectual and spiritual allegience to the written teachings and inner guidance of Christ and Ramakrishna, rather than to their human institutions. (Of course, if I was a monastic, I would faithfully follow my vow of obedience. Also, in the case of Christ, I am even suspect of the accuracy and completeness of some of the written teachings found in the Holy Bible.) Now, this does not mean I do not admire and support the Ramakrishna Order and my Christian church, only that I reserve the right to disagree when a command or proclamation conflicts with my own, intuitive understanding.
