Guest guest
Further to question raised if the name of town and person: Vidyanangar or Vijaynagar? & Saynacharya or Vidyaranya? Response from Sister Gayatriprana.~~~~~~~~~~~ This material comes from CW, Vol.7.330-331: Memoirs of European Travel. I have copied it correctly; the word is Vidyanagar, so Sunil will have to inform Advaita Ashrama if this is a mistake. I must say, Vijayanagar sounds good to me; but I don't know the answer for sure. With regard to the identity of Vidyaranya, there is a footnote in CW, that some say he was the brother of Sayana. I have read elsewhere that there has been confusion between these two great men. There may be a superimposition of one on the other. But there seems to be some difference of opinion - and, apparently, Swamiji thought that they were one and the same person. That is all I know of the matter. Thank you for letting me know. Sincerely,Gayatriprana Response from Sunder~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Vijayanagara was also known as Vidyanagara in honour of Sw. Vidyaranya.[There is another Vidyanagara in Bengal, also known as Nadia, birthplace of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu]. Sayanacharya was a brother of Vidyaranya!Sources:http://64.78.17.70/indiaculture/en/CulturalHeritage/HeritageSites/hamphi.htmhttp://www.blackmask.com/books23c/fevch.htmRegards,Sunder
