Guest guest
Sri Rama Jayam Hi, I am new to this group. I have read a lot about Shri Thakura, the Holy Mother, and Shri Swamiji. But never have I come across any detailed articles with respect to their passing away and more so their final resting places. I have heard that all the three were consigned to flames; I am not able to understand this. Even if they were in their mortal frames, yet those mortal frames themselves were so much full of sanctity and energized with divinity. How can they be consigned to flames rather than interring them inside memorials or tombs. I would be most grateful if somebody could clear these long lingering doubts of mine. Thank you Regards Sudarshan Catch all the cricket action. Download Score tracker
Guest guest
Dear Sudarshan, After the passing away of Sri Ramakrishna, Swamiji wanted to immerse the body in the Ganges. He said that a divine form must never be cremated. But the Calcutta Municipal authorities played spoilsport and did not give the required permission. So the body was cremated at Kashipur. Swamiji himself marked the place in Belur Math premises where he wanted to be cremated. A beautiful temple stands there now. The Holy Mother was cremated nearby. A temple has been built there too with a marble statue of her facing the Ganges. She was very devoted to Ma Ganga. The trio of Thakur, Holy Mother and Swamiji stood for certain principles and ideals. So it really doesn't matter that their physical frames are not there anymore. If you really want to feel their presence I would suggest the following places; 1. Sri Sri Thakurs room in Dakshineswar where he lived for thirty years. 2. Belur Math temple where Thakur promised to stay. He promised Swamiji that he would stay wherever he kept him. 3. Holy Mothers old and new houses at Joyrambati. 4. Swamiji's room at Belur Math. And if you want to SEE Swamiji I would suggest you immediately go to Belur Math and have a Darshan of Revered Swami Ranganathanandaji Maharaj. He personifies all that Swamiji stood for and believed in. Revered Swami Bhuteshanadaji Maharaj was Holy Mother personified. He now lives in the heart of all his devotees. Regarding Thakur, nobody represents him more than Swami Brahmanandaji. We at Bhubaneswar feel his presence at his room in Bhubaneswar Math. If you decide to come here just let me know. Namaste, After cremation, Thakur's remains were preserved and distributed to various shrines. Major portions are as follows, smaller portions may be found in various shrines around the world: http://www.hinduism.co.za/atheist.htm (Quote is from " They Lived With God " by Swami Chetananda): Sri Ramakrishna passed away on August 16, 1886, at the Cossipore garden house. After his cremation the major part of his sacred relics was preserved and worshipped by his young disciples who later became monks. The remaining portion was installed at the Kankurgachi Yogodyana on Janmashtami (the birth anniversary of Sri Krishna, which fell that year a week after the Master’s passing away). Ram took the initiative and immediately arranged for regular worship of the relics. Since then Janmashtami has been observed every year as the main festival day at Yogodhyana. http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Acropolis/1863/niranj.html: " Niranjan was one of the few who served the Master day and night during his illness. After his demise he took sannyasa along with others and became `Swami Niranjananda'. He was mainly instrumental in getting the major portion of the ashes of Sri Ramakrishna, to be later interred at the new Math built by Swami Vivekananda. " http://www.ramakrishna.org/rmk_ordr.htm: " Today Swamiji (Swami Vivekananda) is to perform a sacrifice and install Sri Ramakrishna on the site of the new Math. Swamiji himself took on his right shoulder the ashes of Sri Ramakrishna’s body preserved in a copper casket, and led the van. The disciple in company of the other Sannyasins brought up the rear. There was the music of bells and conches. On his way Swamiji said to the disciple: " Sri Ramakrishna said to me, ‘Wherever you will take me on your shoulders, there I will go and stay, be it under a tree or in a hut.’ It is therefore that I am myself carrying him on my shoulders to the new Math grounds. Know it for certain that Sri Ramakrishna will keep his seat fixed there, for the welfare of the many, for a long time to come.
