Guest guest
Re: Messages of Jay (2/22) & Brad (2/23) Jay & Brad: I was touched by your messages. Your words are indeed assuring to me. Yes, I will wait till the right time comes for making VIVEKANANDA film. I have learned the lesson of persistence from none other than Richard Attenborough who had to wait 20 years before he could make the film Gandhi. I have been waiting since early 1980s when I saw the film Gandhi which inspired me to work on the screenplay of film VIVEKANANDA. It seems that Thakur is a harder task-Master than Gandhi! (I wish I were a filmmaker but I am simply an humble writer.) Although I have been persistent about the film VIVEKANANDA, I must confess that at one point I had decided to give up. Ironically it was because of an incident that happened at the Vivekananda Monastery and Retreat at Ganges in Michigan while I was attending the Vedanta in the Third Millennium Conference in June 2001. Then by the grace of Swamiji (Swami Vivekananda) I got back on the the right track and I resumed the effort. Of course results are in the hands of Thakur. It seems to me that the film will be made by an American filmmaker, possibly Steven Spielberg. Of course, the idea will have to be sold to him. According to Swami Nikhilananda, Swami Vivekananda is a gift of America to India. A British filmmaker gave the film Gandhi to the world. Now, Thakur willing an American filmmaker may give the film VIVEKANANDA to America, India and the rest of the world. Guest guest
Some thoughts on this from a devotee in mid-america. Most Americans have no idea who Swami Vivekananda or Sri Ramakrishna are. If you say Sri Ramakrishna, at best they might think you are talking about ISKCON. No offense to ISKCON meant, but this will turn them off. Gandhi, many had at least a general knowing of. Before there is a film, in the west at least, there needs to be some way for Sri Ramakrishna to become slightly better known. Unfortunately Hollywood has not been very helpful for Vedanta, it seems. Take the film " the Razor's Edge " in which, by the book, the leading character was supposed to be meeting a person who was basically Ramana Maharshi, after being drawn to India from reading the Upanishads. Instead they had the leading man go to to the Himalayas and retire in a Buddhist monastery for awhile. At least Vedanta has not become a fad, here. Yet.
