Dear List

We work closely with the London University Board in the field of

Hindu educational work in the UK.

The new syllabus in Hinduism now allows us to incorporate some of

the ethos and teachings of Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda.

On the section on Religion & Wealth and Poverty we are allowed to

incorporate:

Work of one Hindu personality or organisation towards relief of poverty

and suffering + Detailed knowledge of one Hindu agency involved in

addressing the issue of poverty.

We want to incorporate teachings of Swami Vivekananda and the

work of the Ramakrishna Mission world-wide, to cover these topics.

We will be grateful if the list can offer us in short (remembering that

this course is meant for 5 to 16 year olds).

(a) Key comments by Swami Vivekananda dealing with the issue of

poverty (cause, extent and ways of addressing it).

Chapter and Verse quotations from his talks is necessary.

(b) Detailed Information of the work of the Ramakrishna Movement

in dealing with the issue of poverty (in India as well as world-wide).

thanks

jay

a)

Jay, if you look in the Indeces of the WORKS volumes, under Socialism, you

will find some discussion.

E.g., in Vol. IV, " Modern India " , p. 469, the Sudra plight is dealt with;

in Vol. V, in interview " Indian MIssionary's MIssion to England, p. 202;

and most of all, Vol. VI, the long letter to Mary Hale, numbered (in this

edition) CXII, gives a lot on his ideas about economics and socialism.

b) Someone in India should help you on that.

Carry on! Yogeshananda
