Guest guest
Dear Sendhil: Your story kind of reminds me of the words to a song: "You don't know what you've got until it's gone"! (Karma, of course, is the great Helper. One way it helps us ( I believe) is by keeping us from teachings until we are ready for them. At least, that's how my search for Truth unfolded.) In any event, if you are unable to locate a Guru in the UK, please don't delay your spiritual progress any longer. Read the Gospel (and other books by Ramakrishna's devotees) and meditate and practice Japa. The inner Guru with then become your guide. Guest guest
Dear Brad, Thank you for the kind words. I have been reading the Bagavad Gita and in that Lord Shri Krishna advises that Devotional Service or Bhakti Yoga is the best in this age of Kali. But he also mentions that Dhyana Yoga, Karma Yoga and Jnana Yoga are all steps to the ladder of liberation in which the highest step is Bhakti Yoga. Raja Yoga is advaitam which proposes that God and atman are the same and realizing the self is realizing God. But dhvaitam says that all humans are eternal servitors of the Lord and we have to pray and devote ourselves in trying to reach the lotus feet of the Lord. I'm attracted both ways which inherently mean different things. To learn Raja Yoga is a practical method of trying to realize the self or experience God within ourselves. I started practising Pranayama according to the words of Swami Vivekananda. But he has strictly warned that it needs a Guru from whom only we can learn safely. Performing pranayama itself will raise the Kundalini energy present in the Muladhara. So I had to stop it otherwise it could lead to insanity (also mentioned by Swami Vivekananda). Even for devotional service we need a Guru who can always guide us whenever we go astray. I hope that I will meet a Guru one day who will show me the way till then I will continue to devote myself to praying to God.
