Dear List

Today was an interesting day. We had a chance to spend a couple of hours with our Secretary

Maharaj. We are sure he will not mind if we share some of the issues we discussed with the list.

He has a razor sharp memory. He picked up our conversation from where we had left it last

time he was in London, "Links between science and spirituality." We talked about the

findings of the physical and biological sciences such as:- Physics as seen through the

principles of relativity and quantum mechanics. The findings in neuroscience about

consciousness. Research into psychology and the qualifications Vivekananda would

impose on the present day theory of evolution.

He asked, "Why do the science books by contemporary authors continue to ignore the material offered by Vivekananda?"

We told him that is precisely the topic we are trying to address. "We are dishing out

the teachings of Vivekananda at our talks on Science and Spirituality at Universities,

Colleges and Secondary Schools and they are received extremely well." We also

commented that when we make these presentations to the Western youth, the response

is far more dynamic than the response from the Hindu youth, a clear signal that Vivekananda

is geared to the Western mind. This brings us to another issue we discussed. He

commented that in the past when he used to visit the Western Centres he found a greater

participation by Westerners, why not now? We shared our thoughts on this issue.

Quite immodestly we have told him, "Give us five years, we are going to bring about a

major change. It is in England, (not Europe or USA or India) that we will find Vivekananda's

teachings gather momentum and grow roots. London is very central in this respect. It is

open to new ideas, full of innovation and looking for guidance on many issues including

spirituality. Vivekananda holds the key.
