Guest guest
> Dear Jagannath, According to " Gauri Mata " , Mridani (childhood name) was given the shalagram shortly after her initiation by Sri Ramakrishna when she was barely 10 years old. The account follows: " Some time after her initiation a mysterious stranger, a woman from Brindaba, came to their house at Bhowanipore. A lifelong virgin, she had given herself to the service of Lord Krishna, and her mind was all devotion. Most of her time she kept to her room, absorbed in puja and meditation; her free hours she spent in religious talk with the women of the family. During this woman's sojourn at the house, Mridani one day found a black round stone lying on the floor of her room. She picked it up and was admiring its beauty, wondering whether it was the holy Narayan Shila, when the woman rushed in wildly, and trembling violently, asked for the holy stone and, almsot snatching it from the amazed Mridani, rushed out. After that, she acquaintance between the two soon ripened into intimacy. One day the girl was taken to the woman's room and learnt there the wonderful story of the Shila. The woman told her that the Shila was her all, her dearest, here and hereafter. Nevertheless she offered to place it in Mridani's charge, urged to the step by the express wishes of the Deity mysteriously conveyed to her. The woman departed that day, entrusting the holy Shila to the care of the fortunate girl and exhorting her to give all her attention to it. She was never seen again. Mridani never faltered in her devotion to the Shila, known as Darmodar, a living reality to her, and continued to perform every item of the various rites of worship to her dying day. However apart from Sri Ramakrishna, the shalagram shila carried around By Gauri Ma is also worshipped here as " Lalji " . The nuns of this order are married off to Lalji as a part of sannyas diksha. This Math is very conservative in its approach but there is no denying the sincerety and love with which they carry out their work. It is reported that " Lalji " often talks with the nuns in their dreams sometimes even to complain about the quality of the food served to him. > > Can you recall who gave this shalagram shila to Gauri Ma Edith? > > Regards > Jagannath. > > Ps: The japa mala presented to the Holy Mother by Thakur during the Shodashi Puja is preserved in this Math. Holy Mother has reportedly said, " The person who will even do so much as light a lamp in the Saradeswari Math is sure to reach baikuntha.
